I know I won't be starting this for a while until I finish the Hydro Thunder one, but thought it would be good to get some ideas flowing. I wanted to split the two cabinets up into a racing cabinet and a joystick/light gun cabinet. I've actually got most of the stuff picked out:

Joystick/Button Panels x2
24" TV
Xbox XBMC(Getting a used one from a friend for cheap)
MAME
Still looking for a gun for the light gun games.

I wanted to be able to play NBA JAM, Ninja Turtles (4 player version), any 4 player games.

Looking for any suggestions for good arcade games as I have a few favorites, but am ignorant beyond belief to other popular ones. Start suggesting... and I will make a tutorial for modding the xbox (pictures and all)!!! :D

GAMES:
NBA JAM
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Streets of Rage 1, 2, and 3
BattleToads 1 and 2
MERCS
Cyborg Justice
Mutant League Football
Mutant League Hockey
Sonic (All of the, They all rock)
Super Baseball 2020
Vectorman 1 and 2
WWF Royal Rumble (I'm not a wrestling fan but this game is hilariously fun)
Mortal Kombat 1, 2, and 3 (I want to get Shaolin Monks and try that with the Xbox)
Galaga
Street Fighter
Samuri Showdown (forgot about this one, definitely my favorite old school fighter game)
Raiden (Also my favorite old school shooter gamethat I forgot about, man I have alzheimers :( )
Rampage
Simpsons

Sorry for the delay, but here are some pictures,

And to get the inital set-up going I'm using an older computer for testing/programming, the xbox will be placed in the machine at a later date.

The power supply for the bottom fan, lights on coin slot, and speaker system. The switched power strip as well.

Main plug, the cord that is currently pluged in is the power strip and the relay next to it is for that outlet, the other plug is always on for the xbox/computer. And a 15 amp breaker to the far right.

I'll be getting together some estimates on what I have to put through eBay in order to continue this project. If the LCD in my projector is in deed toast, that will set me back $150. I have to get the mod chip for my xbox as well as the controls, for starters. I'm still not sure if I want to go with a 2 player or 4 player setup.

If you just soft mod it you can do it for free, assuming you have the game...If you want I will send you the files and instructions.

A tip to all those who can't solder, don't get a chip, even with the solderless kits you still have to solder sometimes, where as soft modding dosen't require any soldering, nor even taking your box (xbox) apart.

Provided you have a pre v1.5 xbox. If you buy a new (or reconditioned box from a game store) it will be v1.6+ so you have to modchip. I have a 1.6 box and the executer chip - it was money well spent. I don't use the mame emulator (I played with it for a short time) but I use my XBox as a media center (XBMC) with a wireless adaptor and it rocks. I have yet to find a format that I can't get it to play.

I have to open it up anyways to fix the DVD-ROM drive. Thats why I was able to get it for $30.

Indeed, media center does alot, I've had one problem trying to play a song off my computer. My xbox is equipped with a 250 Western Digital hard drive, and the xbox for the cabinet has a 20 gig in it. But I like it, and it is a much better alternative to a HTPC. A good remote for a HTPC would set you back ~$50, where as the xbox will set you back $20, the overall cost of the xbox is cheaper then a computer....
