Ruben over at smxscreen.com has discovered yet another fabric material for masking purposes, whether you are cropping a 4:3 screen into a 16:9 or minimize light reflection off the walls.

The material is called black fidelio velvet. Here is where you can get it:

Here is a color comparison to duvetene, black felt, and the fidelio. The difference is pretty clear...

Here is another color comparison:The order is Black Fidelio Velvet, Black Speaker Grill Cloth, Black GoM and Black Commando Cloth from left to right.

can you post a pic with the cloths with light from a projection on it in a dark room? Granted, it will probably be similar to the shots you took with difuse ambient light, but I'd like to see it in action if possible. Thanks!

Rayon velvet is available from most fabric stores and for less than $20 a yard. I used it on my tension screen and had excellent results.

Crushed velvet can be had for about $5 a yard, but then you have to worry about the nap of the fabric (grain) as it will absorb light differently (depending on it's orientation) and look a little different in color.

Here's a pic of an image and the border of my screen. The border is 5.5 inches and since the screen was tilted at the time the pic was taken, there is about 2 to 3 inches of image being cropped in the top corner on the left (not that you can tell). In extremely bright scenes you can tell a little difference, but only if you're looking for it.
