..it's only damaged a bit.

The marks are noticeable on the screen.

I was wondering if it is possible to repair these without having to remove the AG layer?

Perhaps I could use something like Petroleum Jelly or one of those "LCD scratch repair kits"?

Has anyone used these before with good results?

The marks aren't scratches exactly, but rather shallow pits in the AG layer where the controller board fell on the screen.

Clear Scotch tape but it will leave a slightly brighter and less diffusive strip on the the areas you tape. This is what is called encapsulation due to the adhesives almost filling in the pits. Same thing could be done when polishing but rather than filling the pits your flattening the peaks instead. This would be a good opportunity to test both and see what I mean. Although, it may not completely remove the scratches/pits it will blend them in better almost unnoticeable unless your looking for them. Obviously at the end polishing may be the only remedy seeing there is no tape wide enough to cover a panel.

BTW, if you open up the first page of my antiglare mega thread you will notice that it started off with a scratch I accidently had on my panel when cleaning it.

If you are all the way down to the polarizer , then I wouldn't touch it.

I have tried almost every polish known to man on bare polarizers and it just scuffs and scratches them.

If there is a tac layer still on top of the polarizer there is a chance.

But then again maybe I've had bad luck with the 8-9 polarizers I tried to buff.

It's not actually nearly as complicated as it seems. The general idea is to throw some lenses and a stripped LCD panel in a box with a bright light.
