I've seen this Sceptre LCD listed as having either 1280x1024 or 1024x768 max, depending on the site. The link below shows Sceptre's website boasting 1280 on a 15,"
but when you click on the link to that monitor it shows 1024.

It has good specs for a monitor in this price range, but I have a feeling the 1280 is a misprint.
Has anyone here had experience with Sceptre monitors, or found any 15" units with SXGA capability? Sceptre also has 17" models with 8ms and 500:1 contrast; some even sporting S-video and RCA jacks.

Thats wierd. There was a scepter komodo lcd at walmart, and it also boasted 1280x1024, but a guy here bought and tested it and nope, it was indeed a misprint. But thats really wierd that this one specifically claims "1280x1024 on a 15 inch". Maybe this one is for real?!
Maybe it can automaticly convert an SXGA signal to XGA. I'd really like to know.

it's totally possible.
my notebook is 14" @ 1400x1050 resolution.
I'm not sure what the SOTA pixel densities are down to now.
Edit:
After hitting Sceptre's site... there's no SXGA 15" panels

Myth, debunked!

Its possible but I think a 17 inch moniter with sxga resolution is cheaper then cramming sxga into a 15 inch monitor. Besides those notebooks usually sacrifice response time and contrast ration for better resolution. But its not impossible, its just pointless to make.
Question: Who's going to want a smaller more expensive monitor with sxga resolution when you can get a bigger cheaper monitor with sxga resolution?
Answer: We would.

Unlikely. No major manufacturer produces a 15" LCD with resolution higher than 1024x768. And I highly doubt Sceptre produces their own LCDs and that they can do it to a higher spec than say, Samsung or Hyundai. I'd email Sceptre and find out what the actual display resolution is.
